Born in North Shields to Walter and Annie Cozens, on 13th September 1939 just after the UK went to war. Frank was the younger brother to Hilton by two years. Frank was always a bit of a rebel and was often in trouble at school. That is, when he went to school, since he also spent a lot of time truanting! Frank soon learnt though that girls attended school clubs such as chess and dancing - always a bit of a flirt, Frank turned up to as many clubs as possible and with his cheeky character and fun loving personality Frank even at a young age became something of a ladies man and loved the company of women. His sense of adventure began as a boy when on summer holidays Frank thought nothing of cycling great distances from Newcastle to Bristol to visit his cousins. He was very bright with a quick and analytical mind being good with numbers (even though he skipped school as much as possible). For a while he worked as a delivery boy for a local butcher’s which doubled up as a betting shop; so as well as delivering meat Frank was also a ‘Bookies Runner’ becoming familiar with the betting system, he was never a gambler - possibly due to witnessing the losses and disappointments of people but he did enjoy the occasional flutter. Frank knew that studying was not for him and at 17 he signed up with the Royal Air Force, hoping for adventure.
